Description

Exceptional madrone burl knife blanks with incredible figure. Not impregnated with acrylic resin. The natural stability and density of madrone make these blanks extremely easy to work with. These are unsurfaced single blanks, NOT scaled into 2 pieces. We specifically choose the stock from which the madrone burl knife blanks are cut. The visual characteristic of our madrone burl is intense. From a cloudy/blistery figure to birdseye/quilted, to flame-cut or crotch plume grain, our madrone burl knife blanks are sure to not disappoint. The range in color is dynamic and complex. From shades of creamy rose to darker salmon hues, our madrone burl is rich in color. The blanks vary in size, perfect for knife making or pistol grip customizing.

As in every burl, natural defects (bark seams/checks/bug holes/knots) and other subtle flaws are sure to exist. However, we have isolated and fit them into the appropriate category.

Blemished (or “Blem”) grade consists of blanks with these natural defects and subtle flaws. These are perfect for mineral inlay, gemstones or color epoxies. Intended for the beginner to expert bladesmiths with a creative mind.

Imperial grade consists of burl figure variations including large and small eyes, flame-cut and muscling figure as well as spalted versions within each type. It also may include acceptable, minor natural defects as mentioned above.

Please note: Sizes may vary 1/4″ +/- in length, 1/4″ +/- in width and 1/8″ +/- in thickness.

Our Process

Our unique way of pressure cooking and kiln drying the wood allows for the least amount of volumetric shrinkage and maximum natural stability of each piece. This proprietary process was developed over 40+ years; many of which was through simple trial and error. Today, through our process using specific temperatures, psi and durations of time, we consistently produce some of the straightest, internally sound and beautiful burl and figured hardwood blanks on the market. Our large manufacturing customers truly depend on this consistency for their pool cue, guitar or knife blanks. Try one of our products and see how we compare to others.
