Description
Big leaf maple burl knife blanks with amazing figure. These are UNSURFACED single blanks, NOT scaled into 2 pieces. Excellent for stabilization with acrylic resins, this species really takes impregnation well.
We specifically choose the pieces of wood for our maple burl knife blanks. The aesthetic appearance of our maple burl is intense and comes in many variations; all beautiful in their own way. The stunning figure of large and small eyes, cloudy and quilted patterns, as well as spalted variations of each figure make our selection one of the nicest around. Grading our maple burl knife blanks is done simply by separating the cream of the crop from the already stunning quality of the blanks we offer.
As in every burl, especially in big leaf maple, natural defects (bark seams/checks/bug holes/knots) and other subtle flaws are sure to exist;. However, we have isolated and fit them into the appropriate category.
Blemished (or “Blem”) grade consists of blanks with natural defects and subtle flaws. These are perfect for mineral inlay, gemstones or color epoxies. Intended for the beginner to expert blade smith with a creative mind.
Imperial grade consists of burl figure variations including large and small eyes, flame-cut and muscling figure as well as spalted versions within each type. It also may include acceptable, minor natural defects as mentioned above.
